CURRENT PROJECTS
Huarmey Seafood Cold Storage Lumen designed and it is currently building and implementing a cold storage facility capable for storing of 5 tons of seafood per day. We’ll be in position of receiving, cleaning, icing, storing and dispatching every day catch directly from the ocean to the market. This activity allows the consumers a better quality and our fisher folks a better price for their products. We’ve learned through Internet about GMP & HACCP procedures. We’ve also acknowledged about Seafood Quality Control System required for US Food & Drugs Administration, which will be implemented in our facility. Project is currently building three 12’ x 12’ walking coolers, one ice making machine with its silo and one 36’ x 12’ processing room for cleaning and filleting. Project is being funded by USAID Peruvian Branch "Fondo de las Américas."
Small Fishing Vessels for Fine Bottom Fish Lumen has finished a project to furnish our fisher folks with two small boats of about 24’ total length each. Vessels will be equipped and launched around second quarter this year. By the very first time in the fishing history of this country, modern fishing technology will be applied on small fishing boats. Lumen has acquired information related to fishing technology through Internet. The boats will be installed with deep water fishing gear hydraulically operated, electronic echo sounders for fish finding, satellite GPS for schools positioning and tracking, nylon mid water fishing nets, bottom traps, monofilament lines, stainless hooks and swivels, etc. This innovative application of fishing technology is possible thanks to Fishing Experts currently teaching at Northern Peru Private University (Universidad Privada del Norte – Trujillo). They are providing us with direct access to Internet, free Technical English translation and Consulting Services. Project is being funded by the Peruvian Branch of Antamina Mining Company.
PROJECTS IN PLANNING STAGE
Cendes Mater Dei It is a Center for Labor Training and Empowerment providing actual hands-on training for life. Cendes focuses on seafood processing technology acquired through Internet. Project aims to implementing a small freezing, smoking and canning facility for export. Our fishing grounds provide the best quality of fish and shellfish from South Pacific waters. The plant will process limited quantities of delicatessen seafood products under American Quality Standards. We’ve already experience enough to operate and maintain a Top Quality Seafood Processing Plant. We kindly invite donors of used processing equipment. We also invite for profit companies to join us in this venture. We look forward partners for supplying equipment which will be paid with Premiun Quality seafood exports. We’ve submitted a Proposal asking for funding of this Project to The Ford Foundation.
